A well-designed communal area can add an extra dimension to any space. For example, a space designed to serve a specific function-- kitchens, covered entrances, even master closets-- can evolve past their primary function and become spaces that are critical to both everyday use as well as special occasions. These communal spaces come in a variety of forms, intended to host groups of various size. However, all of these spaces-- being residential-- should feel like home; comforting its occupants in both times of solitude and the presence of good company.
